As of April 20, 2007, Spain, which is better known for its golfers like Sergio Garcia and top supermodels like Elsa Pataky and Esther Canadas than its poker players like Carlos Mortensen, will be holding a poker tournament that will be shown all over the world.
Both the World Poker Tour and the Grup Peralada, which is the largest casino organization in Spain, announced that they will bring the World Poker Tour to Spain at the Casino Barcelona. The Poker event has been added to the offerings for the 6th season of the very popular show about the game of poker and will be filmed starting in October 2007.
According to Steve Lipscomb, the President, Founder and CEO of the WPTE, the two organizations have also agreed to talk about making a Spanish Tour that will showcase poker tournaments held in different casino establishments as well as poker tournament stops in Portugal and South America.
Oliver Zugel, the CEO of the Casino Division of Grup Peralda, commented that it will further strengthen the company's position in the Poker industry. He added that it will create a new standard for good poker tournaments in Europe and set the structure for the Iberian poker tournament which will involve casinos in Spain and Portugal.
