Tom Dwan Taken Off the 2009 Poker Hall of Fame List

Online poker pro Tom "durrrr" Dwan has been dropped from the list of Poker Hall of Fame nominees. The Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council said in a statement on September 9th, 2009 that with all due respect to Mr.Tom Dwan, who is considered as one of the best poker players in the poker circuit, does not currently meet the criteria set by the Hall of Fame selection committee.

The statement also said that the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council wishes Dwann well and expects that he will be again considered in the future once he has stood the test of time. The criteria for voting consideration in the Poker Hall of Fame are: a player must have faced against top poker players in the circuit, participated in high-stakes competition, played consistently in poker events and gained the respect of fellow poker players, stood the test of time and contributed to the growth of the game.

The original list of 10 Hall of Fame candidates was put together through a 5-week public voting process on WSOP.com. With Dwan out of the picture, the final list of candidates for the 2009 Poker Hall of Fame class is now down to poker pros Dan Harrington, Barry Greenstein, Tom McEvoy, Phil Ivey, Mike Sexton, Erik Seidel, Daniel Negreanu and Men Nguyen.

The decision on who makes it will be the decision of the 12 living Hall of Fame members and 12 member media panel. Voters will be able to vote for up to 3 candidates with every poker player that receives at least seventy-five percent yes votes making their way into the Poker Hall of Fame.

The official 2009 Poker Hall of Fame selection will be announced during a dinner ceremony on November 7th, 2009 at the Rio Hotel and Casino during the dinner break of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event final table.
